After a certain age a cloudy shield develops on the lens that blurs vision. There are three types of cataract—subcapsular, nuclear and cortical cataract. The subcapsular cataract forms a cloudy shield behind the lenses. It occurs mostly in diabetic individuals. Nuclear cataract forms inside the lenses within the nucleus and cortical cataract appears in the cortex. A cataract vision can also occur due to diabetes, hypertension, smoking, obesity, consumption of steroids and hereditary reasons. Cataract is a treatable disease that can be managed by performing a surgery. During the surgery, the doctor removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with an artificial lens called the intraocular lens. The doctor prescribes eye drops to be used before and after the surgery.
