Blood Donations

We accept blood donations from voluntary blood donors, relatives and friends of patients, and autologous donations.

  • The donor is provided adequate information before the process about infections that are usually transmitted via blood transfusion along with care suggestions.
  • Collected blood is processed into separate elements like red cells concentrate, platelet concentrate, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate. These components are then used cost-effectively.
  • An obligatory screening is conducted for transmissible diseases like HIV1 and HIV2, HBV, HCV using the CMIA and ELISA methods
  • All units are screened for VDRL and malaria parasite
  • The bandage should not be removed for a minimum of four hours.
  • If new bleeding occurs, the area should be held with your thumb for five minutes. A new bandage should be applied.
  • Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercises for 12 hours after transfusion to allow faster healing.
  • Dizziness and swelling at the needle site may occur in less than 1 per cent of cases. If this happens, sit down and place your head between your knees or lie down with your legs elevated. Remain in this position until the sensation subsides to avoid falling or injury.

  • Avoid consumption of alcohol and tobacco for at least one hour.
