Dr. Sumit Mehta

Dr. Sumit Mehta trained in general and laparoscopic surgery and later super specialized in the subject of urology. His area of interest is minimally invasive surgery using lasers and miniature endoscopes & laparoscopy in the treatment of urinary stone disease, prostate disease, urinary cancers, Paediatric urology, urology-gynaecology, reconstructive urology and kidney transplants. He is passionate about giving primary stone clearance to his patients using minimally invasive surgery. Thereby avoiding a second surgery for the same stone. He has been instrumental in starting urology as a speciality in all corporate and most teaching hospitals in Navi Mumbai. He was the first to use the holmium laser in Mumbai and introduced this technology in Navi Mumbai also. He has the largest series of minimally invasive surgeries using lasers in Navi Mumbai. He was instrumental in introducing live and cadaver renal transplant in Navi Mumbai and the Konkan region. He has more than 15 national and international publications and has published an original article on abdominal and liver trauma. He has more than 20 years of teaching experience in teaching post graduate and super speciality students. And is a recognised teacher for post graduate and super speciality studies. He is a recipient of many awards like the GM Phadke prize since his undergraduate and post graduate days. He ranked second in the university of Mumbai at the master of surgery exam and was ranked first in the superspecility examination in urology among the students of sir JJ group of hospitals. He was also first among the students who appeared for the master of surgery examination from Nair hospital. He has attended many local regional and international conferences as a delegate and faculty.
