What is the glycemic index?

KDAH

The glycemic index (GI) is a scale that ranks foods containing carbohydrates based on how they affect your blood sugar. High GI foods quickly raise blood sugar levels and include mainly processed foods. Low or medium GI levels gradually raise blood sugar levels over time and contain pulses, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. Knowing the glycemic index can enhance weight loss, decrease your blood sugar levels, and reduce your cholesterol.
