While regular exercise can help strengthen your core muscles and reduce the risk of developing a hernia, it cannot treat or repair an existing one. If you already have a hernia, certain physical activities may make it worse by increasing pressure on the affected area. The only effective treatment for a hernia is surgery. Trying to “push through the pain” can lead to complications and more discomfort down the line. If you’ve noticed a bulge or discomfort — especially during movement — consult a doctor.
